Complementing the Brisbane and Gold Coast operations of Viking’s Marine Services Division, Cairns Slipways offers a full complement of marine refit and repair services, including defence, commercial and superyacht vessels.
Equipped with extensive wharves, dry dock, slipways, side slip and workshops, Cairns Slipways handles vessels up to 1,500 tonnes and 80 metres long. A slip rail system connects the slipway with the nearby shipbuilding halls for undercover work.
Superyachts generate $60 million a year for the Cairns economy and Cairns Slipways has seen double-digit growth in superyacht refit and repair.
In January 2007, Viking appointed Jim Johnston as Operations Manager at Cairns Slipways. Jim has vast experience in marine refit and repair and is a long-time Cairns resident.
